I am really excited to have this print selected for at St Barbe’s Open Exhibition 2023, in Lymington, Hampshire and feel really honoured that my Mokuhanga print ‘Twilight Hamstead Quay‘ has been awarded the Mary and John Symons Memorial Award for best print.
This traditional Japanese water based wood block print was created with four blocks, three colours, nori (rice starch paste) and 16 passes of pigment. This print uses the ‘gomazuri’ technique to create a speckled effect as well as ‘bokashi’ for the graduation of colour intensity with several passes of pigment.
A sudden heavy downpour flattens the waves to a gentle swell. The raindrops break the sea’s grey / blue heave with little white splashes.
