This traditional Japanese water based wood block print was created with four blocks, three colours, nori (rice starch paste) and 7 passes of pigment.

Spring this year has arrived so quickly after such a dull and cool winter. The newly opened leaves on oak trees such a bright green, soft ripples on the sea and the sky so blue and clear; all have inspired this abstract print created using a number of previously carved shina play blocks.

I have also left a square of washi unprinted to highlight its natural beauty. This is a memory of the square of semi opaque washi often used in the fusuma (traditional sliding door) of a closet in Japan.
