Downwind off Freshwater Bay

Reduction linocut (three colours) and Caligo Safe Wash Relief Ink on Zerkall 145 gsm printing paper

This is small limited edition reduction linocut produced as a gift for a good friend and in memory of the great fun we had taking part in the Round the Island Race on several occasions. The event takes place every year around the Isle of Wight and attracts over 1400 boats and 15,000 sailors making it the fourth largest participation sporting event in the UK. Sometimes the weather is great for sailing and sometimes not, but on this day it was really ‘champagne sailing’ with a cracking downwind leg off the back of the Island off Freshwater Bay. With the spinnaker up and all the crews attention on keeping it filled its tense on deck. Looking back into the sun there are many hundreds of boats all flying their spinnakers too. A beautiful day on the water!
