The unusual angular shape of a small boxwood offcut inspired this wood engraving of a traditional gaff rigger, riding the waves as the tide rushes out of the western end of the Solent at the Needles. A wonderful sight that evokes memories of adventures on the high seas!
This limited edition original wood engraving print is hand burnished on Zerkall 145 gsm acid free part cotton printing paper with Hawthorns Stay Open Dense Black Ink. Very fine and sharp tools are used to cut away the wood and create a range of different marks. Such a small piece of wood is quite fiddly to engrave and requires a steady hand and good eyesight (and a strong magnifying glass) to create the intricate detail of the design.
There are 50 prints in the edition, each print is numbered and titled with a monogram signature in pencil on the front and a full signature and year date on the back.
